Proper Conduct in God’s Household (1 Timothy 3:14-16)
Worship 03-06-2016Lately we have seen a public display of lack of civility. We each know there are certain things one should not say and certain ways people should be treated. That is not just true in the community but true in the church. Paul summarizes his letter to Timothy by reminding him of proper conduct and by reminding him who we serve to begin with. There are lessons for each one of us in these few verses.

    Servant Leadership (1 Timothy 3:8-13)
In any group eventually there is a need for leadership and structure.  Sometimes that is a formal arrangement and other times it is an informal situation.  But eventually someone leads.  In the early church it seemsWorship 02-21-2016 that Deacons had the responsibility of caring for the physical and financial needs of people.  It also seems clear that men and women worked together in this endeavor.  In our passage we will examine the character qualities of a servant leader known as a Deacon.

Leadership and Character (1 Tim. 3:1-7)
In this politically charged year we find ourselves thinking quite a bit about leadership. But in our culture we hear about things like foreign policy experience, how a person performed in a debate and does he or she “look presidential.” Rarely is there a word spoken about character. In God’s household those who would lead were examined not by their experience or their looks but by their character exhibited at home, in their house church, and in the community at large. In God’s economy character matters first.

    Empowered to Serve
20160124When we are given all we need to do a task and the encouragement to do our best we call it being “empowered.” In our text today we find that Paul although not feeling worthy to serve God because of his past was shown grace and mercy and empowered to serve God. In turn he was empowering Timothy. Consider how God has gifted and empowered you.
