Discovering the Heart of Christmas: Promise (Luke 1:53-55)
Every brightly wrapped package is a promise. A promise of a need met. A promise of a want fulfilled. And yet for every promise kept all to many of us are fully aware of the pain of promises broken. As humans we make promises but cannot fully control the circumstances to fulfill every made promise. But God can. God did. God does. The birth of Jesus is a promise kept and all humanity benefits.

Discovering the Heart of Christmas: Humility
God knows us at the core of our being. He is fully aware of our deepest thoughts. And so he knows exactly what to allow into our lives to bring us to a point of being willing to serve Him and others. God is not impressed by human displays of power and wealth. He uses the humble to do great things for his kingdom. We see God’s power in humility as we examine the words of his humble servant Mary.

Discovering the Heart of Christmas: Mercy (Luke 1:49-50)
It seems that this is a time of year when so many are shown mercy. Organizations that are based on compassion to others see an uptick in charitable giving. People talk about wanting to give back. But what happens in January? Where is the mercy then. If part of the heart of Christmas is mercy, it would seem God wants it to last far beyond one month of the year.

Discovering the Heart of Christmas: Belief (Luke 1:46-48)
What would cause a young girl to be willing to have her entire future turned upside down? In the case of Mary it all hinged on what she believed about God. She believed that God was fulfilling an ancient promise and allowing her to be part of the process. Her belief determined her actions and is reflected in her song.

    The Disturbing Results of Ingratitude
We have just completed a Thanksgiving Holiday. It seems that even a holiday centered around giving thanks has morphed into a time of self-indulgence in many quarters. What happens when we grow ungrateful? How can we safeguard ourselves so that we practice being thankful on a regular basis?  In this sermon we discover 3 traits of ingratitude and learn 3 safeguards that each can apply.

    Following Jesus: Making Disciples
Here is the difficult thing about commands. We only have two options. To obey or to disobey. Today we look at a command that for many of us is hard to obey because we haven’t learned how. Today we will lay a foundation for what it looks like to be a disciple maker and give you some illustrations from God’s Word. Here is the first tip: First be an engaged follower of Jesus. Living as Disciples (Colossians 3:1-17)
Once you commit to following Jesus, it becomes a daily endeavor. No matter what you do, no matter who you are with, you are to be first and foremost a Christ follower. You and I are to reflect Christ when we are alone when we are with our family when we are at work  and every other waking moment. Have my decisions, my actions, and my thoughts reflected Jesus this past week?

    Discipleship Basics (Luke 9:23-25)
How does one live out what they say they believe?  A word that has been sometimes misused and misunderstood is the term “disciple.” For the next few weeks we are going to explore this term. Since the term "disciple" is used to describe followers of Jesus over 200 times in the New Testament it seems that we should understand what it describes and how it applies to us.  In this sermon we will arrive at a working definition and some examples.

In a Broken World Jesus is still the Answer
This has been yet a another difficult week.  The tragedy in Las Vegas left us reeling.  No motivation, justifies that kind of slaughter.  We live in a broken world.  We live in a world where we see people do many good and kind things.  And yet in the midst of anything good there are just as many who are living angry, lonely, violent, and broken lives.  In a broken world, Jesus is still the answer.

We Believe the Bible is God’s Word
It is one thing to say, “I believe the Bible is God’s Word.” That is the easy part. If we believe God can do anything, then he can give us the Bible. But what about doing what the Bible says? How is that going for you on a daily basis? What about reading the Bible for yourself to learn to discover God’s love and his commands? If we believe the Bible is the Word of God, we should want to be certain we live the principles of the Bible.

    We Believe in the Trinity
“In the name of  The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.” We have heard this formula at the end of prayers. It has been invoked at baptisms and weddings. And yet we often are confused. How can there be one God and yet three distinct persons? It is important that we have a basic understanding of this important teaching called the Trinity.  We also find that there are some practical realities that come from understanding the Trinity.

    God In Us (John 14:16-17, 26; 16:8-13)
Why do I feel guilty when I have done something wrong? How did I know to send that person a note? How can I learn from God’s Word? What can I contribute to church life? All these questions can be answered by understanding the work of the Holy Spirit. He convicts us, guides us, teaches us, and empowers us to serve God by serving one another in the church.
