Where are the adults (2 Peter 1:1-10)
What does it mean to be “called” by God? What does that look like? Is being “called” by God only a term we use for people like missionaries and pastors? What we will see in this passage is that no matter what the circumstances in our lives or our culture, God is still calling each of us to live in obedience to Him. It is in personal obedience to God that we find, purpose, fulfillment, and significance, regardless of our profession or career.

A Primer on Fasting and Prayer
Numerous times throughout the Bible we find the people of God setting aside a specific time for fasting and prayer. While the occasions may be different and the presenting purpose unique, the underlying reality is that the people want God to be the focus. As we prepare for a day of fasting and prayer on Sunday, August 9, we will take time to review and discover reasons to fast and pray and practical realities we all must consider.

    Make a Difference (Matthew 5:13-16)
We find ourselves on that Sunday between two years. It is a time to look back and reflect and a time to think ahead. How will we individually and collectively represent our God in the this coming year? What image of God do people see in the way we live our lives? We will look at Jesus’ word picture of “a city on a hill” and consider what that word picture could mean for us collectively as well as individually.

Created for Purpose (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:15)
Why are we here? Many of us have at one time or another wondered either out loud or in the depths of our own minds. The simple answer is we are here because God created us. But maybe the question that is really being asked is “What is my purpose?” We want to know that we matter, that we can make a difference, that we have purpose. Click on the link below to hear Pastor Scott's Labor Day Sunday Sermon. Consider that we are here for a purpose and believe it or not that purpose involves understanding God’s creation of work.

What if it never happened (1 Cor 15)
Easter Sunday is an important day in our faith history. It is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Death has been conquered. Hope is alive. And yet, in our passage today, Paul addresses the objection that this event never happened. Let that sink in a minute. What if the resurrection never happened? What difference would that make in the way you are living your life today? We will take a look at Paul’s response and discover that we must celebrate the fact of resurrection.

Who are your really looking for? (Matthew 21:1-22)
What are you looking for? Hope? Freedom? Purpose? The list could go on. On a Sunday morning 2000 years ago, the people in Jerusalem may have added Messiah to the list. In their minds Messiah was all the above and more, But they weren't looking for Jesus. He did not fit their idea of a Messiah. Does Jesus fit the description of who we are looking for on this Palm Sunday?

    Living by Faith in 2019
It is one thing to talk about faith. We can celebrate “heroes of faith.” But what does it really mean to live by faith? Does it mean to sell everything and go to Djibouti? Does it mean to quit one’s job and become a pastor? Maybe. But it can also mean to make simple changes in my lifestyle and learn to listen to God on a daily basis. Living by faith can be very practical.

Can’t We Just Get Along (1 Cor. 1:1-17)
Outside of Rome, the city of Corinth, located on an isthmus between mainland Greece and the Peloponnesus Peninsula was arguably one of the most important cities in the first century. It controlled a major trade route and as a result became a large city with a cosmopolitan population. It was the capital of the provincial government of the area so it was politically important. It was also a city that was known for its immorality and pluralistic culture. Often what happened in Corinth stayed in Corinth. Yet it was here that the Apostle Paul spent 18 months in ministry. It is to the church in this city that Paul writes to call them to a Christ centered oneness. There is much we can learn in this study as we begin 2018.

    The Disturbing Results of Ingratitude
We have just completed a Thanksgiving Holiday. It seems that even a holiday centered around giving thanks has morphed into a time of self-indulgence in many quarters. What happens when we grow ungrateful? How can we safeguard ourselves so that we practice being thankful on a regular basis?  In this sermon Pastor Scott shows us 3 results of ingratitude and gives us 3 safeguards we can develop to help us practice thankfulness on a regular basis.

Preaching the Gospel To Ourselves (John 10:1-18)
We live in a spiritually blind age where we are daily confronted with messages that pull us away from God. We encounter this message every day, whether we acknowledge it or not. How can we keep our focus on Christ during these times? Our message today helps us to discern and remember wheat is important in our pursuit of following Jesus. We will look at some aspects of Jesus being the Good Shepherd.

Don’t Blow Away but Stand Firm (Psalm 1)

Worship 06-12-2016What is your foundation in life?  What grounds you in the midst of difficult times?  In this very familiar passage we are reminded that there is only one foundation that provides stability and security.  It is the Word of God.  The psalmist paints a very vivid word picture that leaves the reader with the stark reminder that in God’s eyes we have no middle ground, we either stand firm in his Word or we dry up and blow away.
